Jordi Alba announces his retirement from professional football
The decorated Spanish defender joined Valencia CF at the age of 18, the Club where he grew and was given the opportunity to make his LALIGA debut
A memorable night for Carlos Soler began with a celebration on the pitch at Mestalla. The midfielder, who scored the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win over Getafe, was presented before the game to the fans, showing the silver medal that he won just a week ago at the Tokyo Olympics.
There was a surprise in store for the VCF Academy product, however: The medal was handed over to him by his parents, which brought a beaming smile to the face of Soler.
Mercedes Barragán, Soler's mother, said that "This act that Valencia CF did today for him is wonderful. It's really beautiful. The love that he has for Valencia CF comes from the soul. He really loved this. We're grateful and also very proud of him and the team. They did really well."
Meanwhile, his father Antonio Soler also highlighted the emotional nature of the occasion.
"When he saw us, there was a look of surprise on his face. He wasn't expecting us here. It was very important for us to be here to hand over something that he's earned with his hard work, to show to the fans."
